The Truth About Laser Hair Removal
Since first delving into the business of laser hair removal for a story on azcentral.com (read more), I concluded that well, it's one hairy subject. The confusion stems in part from 1) the complexity of laser types available 2) state and federal regulations governing education and training of laser technicians and 3) the unrealistic perception that laser hair removal permanently removes hair forever. The reality is that no matter what type of laser is used and how many hundreds (or thousands) of dollars you pour into it, hair can come back. Laser hair removal can permanently REDUCE hair but because of growth cycles and other factors, stragglers can and usually do rear their hairy heads. For a new look at the facts and figures, pick up the June issue of Allure Magazine. Writer Lindsy Van Gelder does an excellent job of laying out the good, bad and ugly side of laser hair removal. She cites a new study out of Technion University in Israel that found that 60 percent of laser hair removal clients were satisfied with their experience and explores what happened to the other 40 percent. Of the friends I have who have undergone laser hair removal, most are satisfied with the results. Their most common complaint is the expense. I personally can't justify the expense right now but if I were to do it, I would set up consultations with the most recommended places and go from there. The more knowledgeable a technician is, the more likely you are to be satisfied with the experience. Read more on laser hair removal from the FDA.
