The Classic OM Bath

Oatmeal is the secret to this fabulously soft-skin soak.

This one's a classic! Skin-soothing oatmeal and milk work together to soften skin while the time-honored art of taking a bath will soothe your soul. You'll love this one (we do)!

Here's what you do:

Grind the oatmeal in a blender or food processor until fine. Mix together oatmeal and powdered milk. Add apricot oil and mix thoroughly. Place the mixture inside a muslin bag, or wrap and tie in muslin fabric. Throw into the running water of a hot bath tub. When you are in the tub, sponge your body with the bag for extra softening. Tip: A few drops of essential oil of lavender make a great addition to this recipe. Not only does it smell great, it's a natural sleep enhancer!

You'll need:

  • Muslin bag or fabric
  • 1/2 cup of oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup of powdered milk
  • 1 tablespoon of apricot kernel oil (available at health food stores)

Do-It-Yourself Tips:

  • Try out your concoctions on an inconspicuous place like your forearm before you go slathering it all your body and have fun!
  • Use recipes with perishable food items such as eggs and veggies immediately or store in an airtight container up to one week in the frig.
  • Vodka, witch hazel, vinegar and lemon juice are natural preservatives and help extend the life of a DIY mixture.
  • Sugar and salt scrubs generally keep for a couple months as long as the container has a tight seal.
  • Store aromatherapy massage oils in a dark, well-sealed glass container for up to 6 months.
  • For gifts, consider separating the dry ingredients from the liquid and giving the recipient directions on how to mix them in one-use increments.
