Just a Girl Goddess Scrub

An exfoliating, nourishing body treatment.

Awaken your inner goddess with this super easy, nutrient-rich recipe! The mixture calls on the anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties of oatmeal to soften skin and almonds to act as a natural emollient and exfoliant. The duo are ideal for irritated, dry, lackluster skin. The final punch of vitamins A, D and E come from nutrient-rich avocados.

Here's what you do:

Coarsely chop almonds in a blender and mix them with the oatmeal. Dice and mash the avocado, setting the pit aside. Combine the avocado with the oatmeal and almond mixture. Massage the concoction onto the body. Rinse with warm water, pat dry and moisturize. Use the avocado pit to massage sore muscles.

You'll need:

  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 1 cup dry oatmeal
  • 1 ripe avocado (peeled)

Do-It-Yourself Tips:

  • Try out your concoctions on an inconspicuous place like your forearm before you go slathering it all your body and have fun!
  • Use recipes with perishable food items such as eggs and veggies immediately or store in an airtight container up to one week in the frig.
  • Vodka, witch hazel, vinegar and lemon juice are natural preservatives and help extend the life of a DIY mixture.
  • Sugar and salt scrubs generally keep for a couple months as long as the container has a tight seal.
  • Store aromatherapy massage oils in a dark, well-sealed glass container for up to 6 months.
  • For gifts, consider separating the dry ingredients from the liquid and giving the recipient directions on how to mix them in one-use increments.
