In the same year that you only had to shell out 15 cents for a postage stamp, album of the year was "Saturday Night Fever" (also available on eight-track) and fat farms where all the rage, a health resort rode into town and changed the face of the spa and wellness industry. It was 1979 when Mel and Enid Zuckerman acquired Tucson's Double U Ranch and shaped the site into the now world-renowned Canyon Ranch Health Resort. Consisting of six main centers including the 64,000-square-foot spa, the retreat is located on 70 acres at the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Stays are all-inclusive and the resort features 4, 7 and 10-night vacation packages that include accommodations, meals, fitness classes, sports activities and the use of spa and resort facilities.

At the core of the Ranch experience is the extensive menu of life enhancement programs, classes and luxury spa treatments. Aspiring golfers can enroll in a boot camp style golf program that includes swing analysis, lessons with a PGA professional and green time at the Ventana Canyon Resort. Spa revelers can lavish parched skin and float weightless in the soft-pack envelopment bed with the exclusive Warm Vanilla Float treatment. Even overworked professionals can climb onboard the fast track to health with the new Executive Health Program including a complete health assessment, stress management counseling and home follow-up consultation. While platform shoes and white polyester suits may be worth pining for, long gone are the days of starve-yourself-thin fat farms and we have none other than the forward-thinking Zuckermans to thank for that.

You won't want for much outside the grounds of the 150 acres of this resort. From gourmet dining, cooking demonstrations, relaxation workshops, health and nutrition consulting, golf, racquet sports, to hiking and more, you'll find plenty keep you busy.
